Plan around the tide at Myrtle Beach

Height above MLLW

No window of 30 minutes or more below 1.0 ft over the next 7 days in daylight. Try a higher level.

A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station Springmaid Pier, Myrtle beach (NOAA 8661070). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 5.3 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Myrtle Beach come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8661070, Springmaid Pier, Myrtle beach. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 5.3 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 6.8 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 4.0 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 156 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.4 ft on January 23, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 6.9 ft on October 1, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

Ocean side or waterway side: two different tides

The times on this page are for the ocean. Springmaid Pier stands in the surf of the Grand Strand, so its tide is the one that decides how much hard sand you get for a morning walk or how far the swash climbs toward the dunes. Drive four miles inland to the Intracoastal Waterway and the water follows another clock: NOAA predicts its Combination Bridge station with high water 176 minutes after Charleston Harbor and heights scaled to about a third, and the Socastee Bridge, further up the canal, later still. Anyone launching at a waterway ramp in the afternoon should read a waterway station, not this one, because the high on the canal can arrive close to three hours after the high at the pier.

Southwest along the beach, NOAA keeps a separate station at Garden City Pier, seven miles away, and another on Main Creek behind it at the Garden City Bridge: if you fish the creeks of the Murrells Inlet marsh rather than the surf, those are the closer predictions to look up.

What 5.3 ft of range means on this beach

The Grand Strand is a wide, gently sloping beach, so a typical day's swing moves the waterline a long way horizontally. At low water you can walk the firm, wet sand that is under the swash at high water, and around the new and full moon the lows drop below 0 ft (MLLW) on 156 days of the prediction period, the best mornings for shelling and for finding the runnels between the bars. On the highest tides of the year, October 1, 2027 among them, the water can reach the foot of the dunes at the narrow spots, and an onshore wind adds to it.

Pier fishing and the turn of the tide

Pier anglers on the Strand tend to watch the turn: the first hours of the incoming tide push bait over the bars toward the pilings. The solunar periods on the chart above give the moon's part; the tide table gives the water's. When a major period lands within an hour of a tide change, both are working for you, and the planner below finds the hours the water stays above a level if your spot only fishes well on a higher tide.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Myrtle Beach?

The highest tide predicted at Springmaid Pier, Myrtle beach between October 2026 and December 2027 is 6.9 ft above MLLW, on October 1, 2027 at 8:51 AM. An ordinary higher high reaches 5.6 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Myrtle Beach get negative low tides?

Yes. On 156 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -1.4 ft on January 23, 2027 at 1:31 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

How long is it between high and low tide at Myrtle Beach?

About six hours and twelve minutes on average, because the tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows in each lunar day of 24 hours 50 minutes. That is why each tide comes roughly 50 minutes later than the day before. The water moves fastest in the middle two hours of a rise or fall and slows near the turn.

Is the Myrtle Beach tide the same at the Intracoastal Waterway?

No. NOAA predicts its waterway stations near Myrtle Beach from Charleston Harbor with high water roughly three hours later than the harbor at the Combination Bridge, and a range about a third as large. The ocean tide at Springmaid Pier runs about 25 minutes ahead of Charleston, so the canal can be close to its high while the beach is already falling.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
