A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station Ocean City Inlet (NOAA 8570283). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 2.3 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Ocean City, MD come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8570283, Ocean City Inlet. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 2.3 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 2.9 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 1.7 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 150 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -0.8 ft on January 23, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 3.1 ft on October 1, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

The inlet a storm made

Ocean City Inlet was cut by the hurricane of 1933 and kept open with jetties; it separates the resort's island from Assateague to the south. The station is in the inlet, where the average day runs 2.3 ft from low to high. Half a mile east, the Ocean City fishing pier is a reference station of its own, and NOAA uses it to predict points as far away as Rehoboth Beach in Delaware and Chincoteague in Virginia.

The bays: smaller, later, and lopsided

Behind the island, Isle of Wight Bay and Sinepuxent Bay receive the tide through the inlet. NOAA predicts the Isle of Wight Bay station near the inlet from the fishing pier with high water 25 minutes later and high-water heights at two thirds; at Keydash, a mile into the bay, high water comes almost an hour early but low water almost an hour late, with less than half the high-water height. Further north, Little Assawoman Bay has its own station. In practice the bays rise only a foot or two, and wind moves them easily.

The inlet on the ebb

The inlet is the drain for those bays. On a falling tide the current runs out strongly between the jetties, and when the ebb meets a swell from the east the mouth gets steep and rough. Boaters heading offshore often prefer to cross on the flood. Anglers on the inlet walls fish the change of tide. The lowest predicted low this period is -0.8 ft, on January 23, 2027; the boat ramp planner works for the bay ramps too.

Highest and lowest tides at Ocean City MD, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Ocean City Inlet between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Ocean City, MD?

The highest tide predicted at Ocean City Inlet between October 2026 and December 2027 is 3.1 ft above MLLW, on October 1, 2027 at 9:22 AM. An ordinary higher high reaches 2.5 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Ocean City, MD get negative low tides?

Yes. On 150 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -0.8 ft on January 23, 2027 at 1:35 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

How long is it between high and low tide at Ocean City, MD?

About six hours and twelve minutes on average, because the tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows in each lunar day of 24 hours 50 minutes. That is why each tide comes roughly 50 minutes later than the day before. The water moves fastest in the middle two hours of a rise or fall and slows near the turn.

Is the tide in the Ocean City, MD, bays the same as at the beach?

No. The bays fill through the inlet and their tide is smaller and later. NOAA predicts Isle of Wight Bay near the inlet with high water 25 minutes after the fishing pier and two thirds of its high-water height, and Keydash with less than half. Wind can move the bay level as much as the tide.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
