A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.
Station Old Port Tampa (NOAA 8726607). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 2.5 ft is the average daily range here.
Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026
Tide times for Tampa come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8726607, Old Port Tampa. The tide here is mixed: two highs and two lows most days, but of unequal size, the two highs of a day differing by 0.8 ft on average, for an average daily range of 2.5 ft between the higher high and the lower low. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 3.3 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 1.7 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 223 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.1 ft on January 21, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 3.3 ft on July 4, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.
The tide grows on its way up the bay
At Old Port Tampa the water rises and falls 2.5 ft on an average day, more than at St. Petersburg closer to the mouth. That is the opposite of what many people expect. Tampa Bay is long and funnel-shaped, and as the tide wave travels north into Old Tampa Bay and Hillsborough Bay it is squeezed and builds a little height. NOAA's corrections show it: the Gandy Bridge, just north of this station, is predicted from St. Petersburg with high water 59 minutes later and heights multiplied by 1.12, and Davis Island in Hillsborough Bay gets a factor of 1.16.
Gadsden Point, at the southern tip of the peninsula, is computed from Old Port Tampa itself, turning 39 minutes earlier at high water. Points a few miles apart on this bay can keep noticeably different hours, so pick the station closest to your shoreline.
Summer highs in a bay city
The tallest prediction here for the period, 3.3 ft, falls on July 4, 2027, in the middle of summer, while the lowest water arrives in winter. On the bay's low shorelines the difference matters: summer high tides wet the edges of seawalls and mangrove fringes, and winter lows expose broad mud and seagrass flats along the Interbay shore.
A shallow bay under the wind
Away from its dredged shipping channels Tampa Bay is shallow, so the wind moves it readily. A long southwest blow piles water into the upper bay; a strong north wind after a cold front sends it out, and boat ramps on the flats can sit lower than any table predicts. Tropical storms are the extreme case, which is why the region watches surge forecasts closely. Use these tides as the baseline, and adjust for the forecast before launching or wading.
Highest and lowest tides at Tampa, 2026 to 2027
The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Old Port Tampa between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.
