A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station HONOLULU (NOAA 1612340). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 1.9 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Honolulu come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 1612340, HONOLULU. The tide here is mixed: two highs and two lows most days, but of unequal size, the two highs of a day differing by 1.1 ft on average, for an average daily range of 1.9 ft between the higher high and the lower low. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 2.5 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 1.4 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 228 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -0.4 ft on January 20, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 2.7 ft on July 3, 2027. Clock times are Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, which has no daylight saving time.

Under two feet, and still worth watching

Honolulu's tide is small: 1.9 ft from the lower low to the higher high on an average day. It is also mixed, with one high noticeably bigger than the other, by 1.1 ft on average. On a coast ringed by shallow reef, those few feet change a lot. At a low tide the reef flats off Waikiki and Ala Moana come within inches of the surface, and paddling or walking over them gets awkward; at a high tide, swimmers clear the coral comfortably.

Hanauma Bay and the east side

NOAA predicts Hanauma Bay from Honolulu with high water about an hour earlier and the same height; Waimanalo, on the windward coast, is predicted from the station at Moku o Loe in Kaneohe Bay. Snorkelers at Hanauma find the inner reef shallow on a low tide, and the outer reef's channels run stronger when the tide is changing. Pearl Harbor, to the west, has several reference stations of its own.

King tides on the south shore

Honolulu's highest tides come in summer and winter, and in recent years they have flooded low parts of Waikiki and the Mapunapuna area when they arrived on top of high sea levels and south swells. The highest prediction of this period is 2.7 ft, on July 3, 2027, and the lowest low -0.4 ft, on January 20, 2027. Surf and swell, more than the tide, decide most days on the water here; see the Hawaii page for the other islands.

Highest and lowest tides at Honolulu, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for HONOLULU between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Honolulu?

The highest tide predicted at HONOLULU between October 2026 and December 2027 is 2.7 ft above MLLW, on July 3, 2027 at 4:09 PM. An ordinary higher high reaches 1.9 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Honolulu get negative low tides?

Yes. On 228 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -0.4 ft on January 20, 2027 at 8:00 PM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

Why are the two high tides at Honolulu different heights?

This coast has a mixed tide: the daily and twice-daily constituents are of comparable size, so one high of the day stands taller than the other, by 1.1 ft on average here, and the two lows differ by 0.4 ft. The gap is largest when the moon is far from the equator, and it is why charts list a higher high and a lower low.

Does the tide matter for snorkeling in Honolulu?

It can. The tide range is small, under two feet on an average day, but the reefs are shallow, so a low tide brings the coral close to the surface over the flats and makes entries and exits harder. A rising or high tide gives more clearance. Swell and currents matter more for safety; check both before getting in.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
