Plan around the tide at St. Simons Island
No window of 30 minutes or more below 1.0 ft over the next 7 days in daylight. Try a higher level.
A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.
Station St. Simons Light (NOAA 8677344). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 7.0 ft is the average daily range here.
Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026
Tide times for St. Simons Island come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8677344, St. Simons Light. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 7.0 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 8.6 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 5.4 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 176 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.8 ft on January 23, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 8.8 ft on October 1, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.
The Golden Isles' tide
St. Simons Island, Sea Island and Jekyll Island sit on the Georgia coast near Brunswick, behind wide marshes. The reference station near the St. Simons lighthouse averages 7.0 ft from low to high, 8.6 ft on spring tides. That large range, typical of the Georgia Bight, floods and drains the marshes of Glynn twice a day. St. Simons Sound bar, offshore, is predicted from Fort Pulaski with almost the same time.
Up the Frederica and Mackay rivers
The tide climbs the rivers behind the island slowly. NOAA predicts the Frederica River bridge from Fort Pulaski with high water 43 minutes later, the Frederica River further north 48 minutes later, and the Mackay River near daymark 239 almost an hour later. Jekyll Island's marina, across the sound, is predicted from Fernandina Beach in Florida with low water 36 minutes later. Boaters on the Intracoastal Waterway behind the islands meet shallow spots at low tide.
East Beach and the sound
At low tide, East Beach on St. Simons opens wide, with sand bars and tidal pools; at high tide the water reaches far up the beach. The pier near the lighthouse looks out on St. Simons Sound, where the current runs hard in the middle of the tide. The lowest low this period is -1.8 ft, on January 23, 2027. The Georgia page compares the island with Tybee.
Highest and lowest tides at St. Simons Island, 2026 to 2027
