Portland tides today
The Portland station sits in the harbor of Casco Bay and is the reference NOAA uses to predict much of the southern Maine coast.
Shaded: night. Green bands: solunar periods (thick = major, thin = minor). Heights in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of NOAA charts.

Plan around the tide at Portland
No window of 30 minutes or more below 1.0 ft over the next 7 days in daylight. Try a higher level.
A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.
Station PORTLAND (NOAA 8418150). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 9.8 ft is the average daily range here.

Tide times for Portland come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8418150, PORTLAND. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 9.8 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 12.0 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 7.8 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 188 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.8 ft on January 23, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 11.6 ft on December 25, 2026. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.
A ten-foot harbor that sets the clock for southern Maine
Casco Bay fills and empties by 9.8 ft on an ordinary day, and 12.0 ft on the strongest tides around the new and full moon. That is a lot of water for a working waterfront: floats at the Old Port ride up and down the pilings by the height of a house storey twice a day, and a dinghy tied short at high water ends up hanging from its painter six hours later.
Because the harbor gauge has a long record, NOAA predicts many nearby points from it. Back Cove, the Fore River, Peaks Island and Great Diamond Island are all listed as Portland with a correction of a few minutes and a height factor close to one, so the times on this page hold for most of the inner bay. Old Orchard Beach, Hampton Harbor in New Hampshire and Cape Porpoise are predicted from Portland too, with the same method.
Islands, ferries and the mud of the upper bay
On the island side, the tide decides how far you walk on rockweed and how steep the gangway is at the ferry landing. In the coves of the upper bay, a low of -1.8 ft like the one predicted for January 23, 2027 leaves wide flats of mud and eelgrass where the water was knee-deep at mid-tide. Kayakers who cross to the islands plan on the slack around the turn; the current between the ledges is strongest in the middle hours of the rise and fall.
Winter storms on top of the tide
The highest prediction of the period, 11.6 ft on December 25, 2026, falls in winter, the season of nor'easters. When a storm surge rides a spring tide, Commercial Street can take water; the king tides guide explains how to read those dates, and the Maine coast state page compares Portland with Bar Harbor further east.
Highest and lowest tides at Portland, 2026 to 2027
The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for PORTLAND between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.
