A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station Baltimore, Fort McHenry (NOAA 8574680). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 1.4 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Baltimore come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8574680, Baltimore, Fort McHenry. The tide here is mixed: two highs and two lows most days, but of unequal size, the two highs of a day differing by 0.5 ft on average, for an average daily range of 1.4 ft between the higher high and the lower low. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 1.7 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 1.0 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 155 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -0.7 ft on January 22, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 2.2 ft on July 4, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

The harbor gauge at Fort McHenry

Baltimore's tide gauge stands at Fort McHenry, at the mouth of the Inner Harbor, and it is the reference NOAA uses for much of the upper Chesapeake. The tide is small: 1.4 ft on an average day. Around the harbor the corrections are minor, Hawkins Point at the Key Bridge site within minutes, Stony Creek and North Point a few minutes either way with heights within ten percent, so this page serves the whole port and the creeks of the lower Patapsco.

Far from the ocean, late tide

Baltimore is about 150 miles from the Atlantic by water, and the tide reaching it has crossed the length of the bay. It arrives one to two hours after Annapolis, and many hours after the capes. The tide here is mixed, with unequal highs, and on days when the inequality is large one high almost disappears.

Water level in the Inner Harbor

The Inner Harbor's promenade sits above the ordinary tides, but storm tides from hurricanes and strong southeast winds have flooded Fells Point and the waterfront in the past. The highest prediction this period, 2.2 ft on July 4, 2027, is modest; weather is what turns a tide into a flood here. The lowest predicted low is -0.7 ft, on January 22, 2027.

Highest and lowest tides at Baltimore, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Baltimore, Fort McHenry between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Baltimore?

The highest tide predicted at Baltimore, Fort McHenry between October 2026 and December 2027 is 2.2 ft above MLLW, on July 4, 2027 at 7:23 AM. An ordinary higher high reaches 1.7 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Baltimore get negative low tides?

Yes. On 155 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -0.7 ft on January 22, 2027 at 12:02 PM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

Why are the two high tides at Baltimore different heights?

This coast has a mixed tide: the daily and twice-daily constituents are of comparable size, so one high of the day stands taller than the other, by 0.5 ft on average here, and the two lows differ by 0.2 ft. The gap is largest when the moon is far from the equator, and it is why charts list a higher high and a lower low.

How big is the tide in Baltimore Harbor?

Small: well under two feet between low and high on an average day, because the tide loses height crossing the long Chesapeake Bay. The highs of a day are often unequal. Wind and rain often move the harbor level more than the tide, which is why storm surges, not predicted tides, cause the floods in Fells Point.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
