Plan around the tide at Westport

Height above MLLW

No window of 30 minutes or more below 1.0 ft over the next 7 days in daylight. Try a higher level.

A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station Westport, Point Chehalis (NOAA 9441102). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 8.8 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Westport come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 9441102, Westport, Point Chehalis. The tide here is mixed: two highs and two lows most days, but of unequal size, the two highs of a day differing by 1.5 ft on average, for an average daily range of 8.8 ft between the higher high and the lower low. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 11.4 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 6.3 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 199 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -2.7 ft on July 5, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 11.3 ft on December 24, 2026. Clock times are Pacific Time, daylight saving time included.

Grays Harbor's open-ocean entrance

Westport sits on the spit at the mouth of Grays Harbor, where the bay meets the Pacific. The station at Point Chehalis averages 8.8 ft from lower low to higher high, with spring tides of 11.4 ft. That is a large range for the open coast, and it drives powerful currents through the harbor entrance, where the ebb meets the Pacific swell over the bar.

The bar, the marina and the charters

Westport's marina is home to a sport and commercial fleet that crosses the Grays Harbor bar to reach the ocean. Bar conditions depend on the swell and on the tide: an outgoing tide against a big westerly swell steepens the waves, while the flood usually calms them. The Coast Guard posts bar restrictions when conditions are dangerous; the times on this page show when the flood and ebb are running. The lowest low this period is -2.7 ft, on July 5, 2027.

Willapa Bay to the south

South of Westport, Point Brown, Bay City on South Bay and Markham are predicted by NOAA from Toke Point on Willapa Bay, with high water within ten minutes and low water 15 to 26 minutes earlier. Willapa's oyster beds and the razor clam beaches of the coast depend on the low tides; clam openings are set by the state, so check them before going. The Washington page compares Westport with Seattle and Port Townsend.

Highest and lowest tides at Westport, 2026 to 2027

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Westport?

The highest tide predicted at Westport, Point Chehalis between October 2026 and December 2027 is 11.3 ft above MLLW, on December 24, 2026 at 12:12 PM. An ordinary higher high reaches 9.1 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Westport get negative low tides?

Yes. On 199 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -2.7 ft on July 5, 2027 at 8:21 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

Why are the two high tides at Westport different heights?

This coast has a mixed tide: the daily and twice-daily constituents are of comparable size, so one high of the day stands taller than the other, by 1.5 ft on average here, and the two lows differ by 2.9 ft. The gap is largest when the moon is far from the equator, and it is why charts list a higher high and a lower low.

When is the Grays Harbor bar at Westport roughest?

Usually on a strong ebb meeting a large westerly swell, when the outgoing current steepens the waves over the bar. The flood tide tends to lay them down. The Coast Guard can restrict crossings in dangerous conditions, so check the bar report as well as the tide times on this page before heading out.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
