Station Long Beach, Terminal Island (NOAA 9410680). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 5.6 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Long Beach come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 9410680, Long Beach, Terminal Island. The tide here is mixed: two highs and two lows most days, but of unequal size, the two highs of a day differing by 1.7 ft on average, for an average daily range of 5.6 ft between the higher high and the lower low. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 7.6 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 3.6 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 237 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -2.0 ft on December 24, 2026. The highest predicted tide of that period is 7.4 ft on December 24, 2026. Clock times are Pacific Time, daylight saving time included.

Tide inside a breakwater

San Pedro Bay is closed off from the open sea by a federal breakwater several miles long, and the container terminals, channels and basins of two of the busiest ports in the country lie behind it. Terminal Island is the man-made ground in the middle. A breakwater stops swell but not the tide, which enters through its gaps freely: the average range at this gauge is 5.6 ft, and spring tides reach 7.6 ft. A second NOAA gauge, at the Long Beach fire boat pier less than a mile southeast, records almost the same water.

How the port's corners compare

The other stations nearby are predicted from the Los Angeles Outer Harbor gauge, three miles southwest of this one. NOAA gives Cabrillo Beach, at the San Pedro end of the harbor, exactly the times and heights of the Outer Harbor, and the Long Beach Inner Harbor high water 4 minutes later at 96 percent. The channels keep pace with the open bay. Things slow down where water must push through a culvert or a narrow creek: at the Los Patos highway bridge, ten miles east, high water comes 60 minutes after the Outer Harbor and the lows are much shallower. King Harbor in Santa Monica Bay, twelve miles northwest, runs 8 minutes behind.

For the shore east of the port

Long Beach's own city beach faces south, behind the same breakwater, so it gets little surf and a waterline that moves mostly with the tide. Low tides below 0 ft come on 237 days of the prediction period. The boat ramp planner works from this gauge for launches in the harbor basins.

Highest and lowest tides at Long Beach, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Long Beach, Terminal Island between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Long Beach?

The highest tide predicted at Long Beach, Terminal Island between October 2026 and December 2027 is 7.4 ft above MLLW, on December 24, 2026 at 8:26 AM. An ordinary higher high reaches 5.5 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Long Beach get negative low tides?

Yes. On 237 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -2.0 ft on December 24, 2026 at 3:52 PM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

Why are the two high tides at Long Beach different heights?

This coast has a mixed tide: the daily and twice-daily constituents are of comparable size, so one high of the day stands taller than the other, by 1.7 ft on average here, and the two lows differ by 2.1 ft. The gap is largest when the moon is far from the equator, and it is why charts list a higher high and a lower low.

Why is the tide, not the surf, what moves the waterline in Long Beach?

The long federal breakwater offshore blocks most of the ocean swell before it reaches the city shore, while letting the tide pass through its gaps. So the water still rises and falls by several feet each day, but the waves stay small. That makes the tide, not the surf, the main reason the sand gets wider or narrower here, unlike the open beaches farther south.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
