Plan around the tide at Cocoa Beach

Height above MLLW

No window of 30 minutes or more below 1.0 ft over the next 7 days in daylight. Try a higher level.

A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station Port Canaveral (Trident Pier) (NOAA 8721604). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 3.8 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Cocoa Beach come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8721604, Port Canaveral (Trident Pier). The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 3.8 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 4.8 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 2.8 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 194 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.1 ft on January 23, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 5.2 ft on October 28, 2026. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

The Space Coast tide

Cocoa Beach faces the Atlantic between Port Canaveral and Patrick Space Force Base. The closest reference station is Trident Pier at the port, which averages 3.8 ft from low to high. NOAA also keeps a Cocoa Beach reference station three miles south and predicts Cape Canaveral from Miami's Government Cut with high water about an hour earlier and heights half again as large: the Space Coast's tide is bigger than Miami's but smaller than northeast Florida's.

Surfing the small Florida tide

Cocoa Beach is Florida's best-known surf town, and on its sandbars the tide changes the waves: a low tide can make a break steep and fast, a high tide can make the same swell soft and slow. Surfers check the height and the time of the turn as much as the swell report. The pier in the middle of town is a reference point for both surfers and anglers.

The river lagoons have almost no tide

West of the beach, the Banana River and the Indian River are lagoons with only a few small inlets far away. Their water levels change little with the moon and more with the wind and rain. For launches into the lagoons, the tide on this page does not apply; for the port and the ocean, it does. The lowest low this period is -1.1 ft, on January 23, 2027, and the highest high 5.2 ft, on October 28, 2026.

Highest and lowest tides at Cocoa Beach, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Port Canaveral (Trident Pier) between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Cocoa Beach?

The highest tide predicted at Port Canaveral (Trident Pier) between October 2026 and December 2027 is 5.2 ft above MLLW, on October 28, 2026 at 9:53 AM. An ordinary higher high reaches 3.9 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Cocoa Beach get negative low tides?

Yes. On 194 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -1.1 ft on January 23, 2027 at 1:36 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

How long is it between high and low tide at Cocoa Beach?

About six hours and twelve minutes on average, because the tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows in each lunar day of 24 hours 50 minutes. That is why each tide comes roughly 50 minutes later than the day before. The water moves fastest in the middle two hours of a rise or fall and slows near the turn.

Do the Banana River and Indian River have tides near Cocoa Beach?

Very small ones. Both are long lagoons connected to the ocean only through distant inlets such as Sebastian and Ponce, so the lunar tide is damped to a few inches near Cocoa Beach, and wind and rain change the level more. The tide on this page applies to the ocean beach and Port Canaveral.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
