Plan around the tide at Daytona Beach

Height above MLLW

No window of 30 minutes or more below 1.0 ft over the next 7 days in daylight. Try a higher level.

A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station Daytona Beach Shores, Sunglow Pier (NOAA 8721120). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 4.0 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Daytona Beach come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8721120, Daytona Beach Shores, Sunglow Pier, a subordinate station whose highs and lows NOAA corrects from Fernandina Beach, Amelia River. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 4.0 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 5.1 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 3.0 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 163 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.3 ft on January 23, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 5.1 ft on October 1, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

A beach where the tide decides where you park

Daytona's hard-packed sand is famous for driving, and on the beach the tide is a practical matter: the drivable strip shrinks at high tide, and beach driving areas are closed when the water comes up. The station at the Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach Shores is computed from Fernandina Beach with high water 56 minutes earlier, low water 42 minutes earlier, high-water heights at 65 percent. The result is an average day of 4.0 ft. Volusia County posts the beach driving rules and closures; this page gives the water.

The Halifax River runs hours behind

Behind the beach, the Halifax River is a lagoon with a small, late tide. NOAA predicts the Halifax River at Ormond Beach from Fernandina with high water more than three hours later and a tenth of the height at high water: on the river the tide barely matters. At Ponce Inlet, nine miles south of town, the Halifax meets the ocean and the tide is stronger, with its own reference station at Ponce de Leon Inlet.

Highs, lows and the surf

The lowest predicted low here this period is -1.3 ft, on January 23, 2027, when the beach is widest; the highest high is 5.1 ft, on October 1, 2027. Rip currents form along this coast whatever the tide. The low tide beach planner lists the daylight hours with the water below the level you choose.

Highest and lowest tides at Daytona Beach, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Daytona Beach Shores, Sunglow Pier between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

A subordinate station

NOAA predicts Daytona Beach Shores, Sunglow Pier from the reference station Fernandina Beach, Amelia River (8720030): high water 56 minutes earlier, low water 42 minutes earlier, heights multiplied by 0.65 at high water and 0.84 at low water. Between those highs and lows the curve on this page follows the shape of the reference station's hourly curve.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Daytona Beach?

The highest tide predicted at Daytona Beach Shores, Sunglow Pier between October 2026 and December 2027 is 5.1 ft above MLLW, on October 1, 2027 at 9:29 AM. An ordinary high tide reaches about 4.0 ft. Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Daytona Beach get negative low tides?

Yes. On 163 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -1.3 ft on January 23, 2027 at 2:01 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

How long is it between high and low tide at Daytona Beach?

About six hours and twelve minutes on average, because the tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows in each lunar day of 24 hours 50 minutes. That is why each tide comes roughly 50 minutes later than the day before. The water moves fastest in the middle two hours of a rise or fall and slows near the turn.

Can you drive on Daytona Beach at high tide?

Beach driving depends on the tide and on county rules. At high tide the drivable sand narrows and some areas close until the water recedes. Volusia County announces closures and the hours of beach driving; check them before going. This page shows when the water is high and low at Daytona Beach Shores.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
