A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station St. Petersburg (NOAA 8726520). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 2.2 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for St. Petersburg come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8726520, St. Petersburg. The tide here is mixed: two highs and two lows most days, but of unequal size, the two highs of a day differing by 0.6 ft on average, for an average daily range of 2.2 ft between the higher high and the lower low. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 3.0 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 1.5 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 222 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.0 ft on January 21, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 3.0 ft on July 4, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

Bay waterfront versus the Pinellas beaches

The downtown gauge averages 2.2 ft between the higher high and the lower low, but the beaches most visitors mean by St. Pete are on the other side of the peninsula, on the Gulf. Their tide arrives first. NOAA predicts Pass-a-Grille Beach from this station with high water 94 minutes earlier and heights at 87 percent, and Gulfport, on Boca Ciega Bay, 92 minutes earlier. Long Key, by the Corey Causeway, comes out 78 minutes ahead. So when the table above shows a high downtown at noon, the sand at St. Pete Beach has already been falling for more than an hour.

Why so many stations lean on this one

St. Petersburg has a long, well-kept record, which makes it a convenient anchor for secondary stations from Sarasota Bay down to the lower Caloosahatchee. Point Pinellas, at the southern tip of the peninsula, is computed 22 minutes ahead of it; stations on Old Tampa Bay come out later and taller. The reference sits roughly midway along that progression: the open Gulf leads, the upper bay trails.

The tide pattern itself is mixed and frequently unbalanced. On 37% of days only one high shows up, the second one shrinking to a mere pause in the falling water. Fishing the seawalls and piers downtown, many anglers simply watch for the larger of the two daily movements; the fishing tides guide explains what moving water does along structure.

A city waterfront that floods from the bay

The highest prediction of the period, 3.0 ft on July 4, 2027, arrives in summer. Low parts of the waterfront can take water when a high tide meets a persistent onshore wind or a tropical system, and the predicted heights carry no weather at all. Treat them as the floor of what the bay might do, not the ceiling, and nothing here is for navigation.

Highest and lowest tides at St. Petersburg, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for St. Petersburg between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at St. Petersburg?

The highest tide predicted at St. Petersburg between October 2026 and December 2027 is 3.0 ft above MLLW, on July 4, 2027 at 1:58 PM. An ordinary higher high reaches 2.3 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does St. Petersburg get negative low tides?

Yes. On 222 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -1.0 ft on January 21, 2027 at 7:49 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

Why are the two high tides at St. Petersburg different heights?

This coast has a mixed tide: the daily and twice-daily constituents are of comparable size, so one high of the day stands taller than the other, by 0.6 ft on average here, and the two lows differ by 0.9 ft. The gap is largest when the moon is far from the equator, and it is why charts list a higher high and a lower low.

Is high tide at St. Pete Beach earlier than in downtown St. Petersburg?

Yes, by roughly an hour and a half. The beaches face the Gulf, and NOAA predicts Pass-a-Grille Beach from the downtown St. Petersburg station with high water 94 minutes earlier and lows 90 minutes earlier. The tide reaches the downtown waterfront only after travelling up Tampa Bay, so subtract that time from the downtown table when planning on the beach.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
