Station Panama City Beach (NOAA 8729210). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 1.4 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Panama City Beach come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8729210, Panama City Beach. The tide here is mostly diurnal: on 85% of days there is a single high and a single low, and the water rises or falls for hours at a time with an average daily range of only 1.4 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 2.2 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 0.5 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 217 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.0 ft on January 20, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 2.3 ft on October 28, 2026. Clock times are Central Time, daylight saving time included.

Strong weeks and slack weeks on the Panhandle

1.4 ft is the average swing at Panama City Beach, gentle by any measure, and the average hides a wide spread through the month. When the moon sits far north or south of the equator the daily tide strengthens and spreads to about 2.2 ft; around the equator crossings it collapses to 0.5 ft, and for a day or two the beach barely notices a tide at all. So the useful thing to check is not the moon's phase but where the week falls in that cycle, which the 7-day chart above shows at a glance.

St. Andrew Bay and the channel

East of the beach, the entrance channel cut through the barrier leads into St. Andrew Bay and the port. NOAA predicts that channel entrance from Pensacola, with high water 99 minutes earlier than the Pensacola reference and heights about equal to it, and Alligator Bayou, off the bay, 47 minutes earlier at very nearly the same scale. Those corrections place the bay on almost the same footing as the Gulf front in height. Along this coast the tide is so small that boaters in the bay tend to watch the depth over the flats more than the clock.

Wind often writes the tide here

A swing of a foot or two is easily matched by weather. A steady south wind sets water up against the beach and can cover sand the table says should be dry; a winter north wind after a front can drop the bay and the surf line below the prediction. Swimmers should also know that the flag system and rip currents matter far more for safety on this beach than the height of the tide. For timing a stroll at the water's edge, the beach walk planner uses the predicted heights; see Destin to the west for a pass with an even smaller tide.

Highest and lowest tides at Panama City Beach, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Panama City Beach between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Panama City Beach?

The highest tide predicted at Panama City Beach between October 2026 and December 2027 is 2.3 ft above MLLW, on October 28, 2026 at 9:38 PM. An ordinary higher high reaches 1.4 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Panama City Beach get negative low tides?

Yes. On 217 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -1.0 ft on January 20, 2027 at 4:51 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

Why does Panama City Beach often have only one high tide a day?

Along this part of the Gulf of Mexico the daily (diurnal) tidal constituents dominate the twice-daily ones, so on 85% of days the water makes a single rise and a single fall. When the moon is far north or south of the equator the single tide is strongest; near the equator crossings the tide weakens and two small highs can appear.

Is the tide in St. Andrew Bay different from Panama City Beach?

Only a little in size. NOAA does not compute the bay from the Panama City Beach gauge but from Pensacola, putting the channel entrance about an hour and a half ahead of Pensacola and Alligator Bayou about three quarters of an hour ahead, both at nearly the same height. For the port area, NOAA keeps its own station at Sulphur Point, a direct reading of the inner bay.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
