Station Point Lookout (marina), Jones Inlet (NOAA 8516402). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 4.5 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Jones Beach come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8516402, Point Lookout (marina), Jones Inlet. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 4.5 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 5.5 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 3.4 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 174 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.0 ft on January 23, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 5.6 ft on July 4, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

Ocean beach, inlet station

Jones Beach is an ocean barrier beach; NOAA's nearest reference station is across the inlet at Point Lookout, in a marina just inside the mouth. It averages 4.5 ft from low to high. On the ocean beach itself the water turns a little earlier: NOAA predicts its Jones Inlet (Point Lookout) secondary station from Sandy Hook with high water 20 minutes earlier and about three quarters of Sandy Hook's height.

Behind the barrier, a slower and smaller tide

Behind Jones Beach lies a maze of marsh islands and channels, Hempstead Bay and the bays around Freeport and Baldwin. The tide that squeezes through Jones Inlet spreads out there, arrives later and loses height. NOAA predicts Freeport's Baldwin Bay from Sandy Hook with high water 37 minutes later and two thirds of the height, Neds Creek about 50 minutes later, and Cuba Island more than an hour later with half of Sandy Hook's range. Clammers and boaters in the back bays should use those times, not the inlet's.

Jones Inlet itself

The inlet is where the water from all those bays drains to the sea, so the current runs hard in the middle of the ebb, and an onshore swell meeting that ebb makes the mouth rough. Fishing the jetty or the inlet beaches, many anglers prefer the last of the incoming tide and the start of the outgoing. The lowest low predicted at Point Lookout this period is -1.0 ft, on January 23, 2027. The fishing tides guide explains how moving water changes the bite.

Highest and lowest tides at Jones Beach, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Point Lookout (marina), Jones Inlet between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Jones Beach?

The highest tide predicted at Point Lookout (marina), Jones Inlet between October 2026 and December 2027 is 5.6 ft above MLLW, on July 4, 2027 at 8:50 PM. An ordinary higher high reaches 4.7 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Jones Beach get negative low tides?

Yes. On 174 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -1.0 ft on January 23, 2027 at 2:21 PM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

How long is it between high and low tide at Jones Beach?

About six hours and twelve minutes on average, because the tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows in each lunar day of 24 hours 50 minutes. That is why each tide comes roughly 50 minutes later than the day before. The water moves fastest in the middle two hours of a rise or fall and slows near the turn.

Is high tide later in the bays behind Jones Beach?

Yes, and often by a lot. NOAA predicts Freeport’s Baldwin Bay from Sandy Hook with high water 37 minutes later and two thirds of the height, and Cuba Island more than an hour later with half of it. The water has to pass Jones Inlet and spread through the marsh, so the back bays rise later and less than the ocean beach.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
