Station South Padre Island C.G. Station (NOAA 8779748). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 1.4 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for South Padre Island come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8779748, South Padre Island C.G. Station. The tide here is mostly diurnal: on 73% of days there is a single high and a single low, and the water rises or falls for hours at a time with an average daily range of only 1.4 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 2.0 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 0.6 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 208 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.0 ft on January 21, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 2.3 ft on October 29, 2026. Clock times are Central Time, daylight saving time included.

The southernmost tide on the Texas coast

1.4 ft is the average daily swing measured at the Coast Guard station, a gauge that sits a short way inside Brazos Santiago Pass, the opening between South Padre Island and Brazos Island. The water here is the Laguna Madre's southern end meeting the Gulf. Three primary gauges cluster within a mile: this one, the Padre Island south-end station toward the pass, and one on Brazos Santiago Pass itself. Port Isabel, on the mainland three miles west, has its own as well.

Across the Queen Isabella Causeway

The causeway carries the only road onto the island from Port Isabel, and NOAA predicts both of its ends. Neither is computed from this Coast Guard gauge: the reference is the Padre Island south-end station. The east end, by the island, comes out 24 minutes later at high water than that reference, at 87 percent of the high-water height and 75 percent at low water. The west end, near Port Isabel, trails it by 52 minutes. South Bay entrance, the opening to the shallow bay south of Port Isabel, runs 14 minutes behind. The farther the water travels into the lagoon, the later and flatter the tide becomes.

Winds off the Gulf and fronts from the north

Steady southeast winds blow across this coast for much of the year, and they hold water against the island and in the lagoon. When a winter front arrives with strong north winds, the Laguna Madre can drain noticeably, leaving flats and channel edges shallower than the table shows. In any season the weather can shift the level by as much as the tide itself. The deepest predicted low of the period, -1.0 ft on January 21, 2027, is a baseline, not a limit. Before launching from a bay-side ramp, compare this page with the wind forecast; the boat ramp planner handles the tide part, and none of it is for navigation.

Highest and lowest tides at South Padre Island, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for South Padre Island C.G. Station between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at South Padre Island?

The highest tide predicted at South Padre Island C.G. Station between October 2026 and December 2027 is 2.3 ft above MLLW, on October 29, 2026 at 11:24 PM. An ordinary higher high reaches 1.4 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does South Padre Island get negative low tides?

Yes. On 208 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -1.0 ft on January 21, 2027 at 7:45 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

Why does South Padre Island often have only one high tide a day?

Along this part of the Gulf of Mexico the daily (diurnal) tidal constituents dominate the twice-daily ones, so on 73% of days the water makes a single rise and a single fall. When the moon is far north or south of the equator the single tide is strongest; near the equator crossings the tide weakens and two small highs can appear.

Is the tide later on the Port Isabel end of the South Padre Island causeway?

Yes. NOAA predicts both ends of the Queen Isabella Causeway from its Padre Island south-end station: the island end about 24 minutes later at high water, and the Port Isabel end about 52 minutes later, with a smaller range. The tide loses height and time as it spreads into the shallow Laguna Madre, so the mainland side turns last.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
