Virginia Beach tides today
NOAA predicts the Virginia Beach oceanfront from the Duck pier in North Carolina, with high water 15 minutes later and heights 7 percent larger.
Shaded: night. Green bands: solunar periods (thick = major, thin = minor). Heights in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of NOAA charts.

Station Virginia Beach (NOAA 8639168). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 3.8 ft is the average daily range here.

Tide times for Virginia Beach come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8639168, Virginia Beach, a subordinate station whose highs and lows NOAA corrects from DUCK PIER. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 3.8 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 4.8 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 2.8 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 164 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -1.0 ft on January 23, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 5.1 ft on October 1, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.
Oceanfront tide, borrowed from the Outer Banks
The resort strip of Virginia Beach faces the open Atlantic just south of the mouth of Chesapeake Bay. Its tide is predicted from the research pier at Duck, about 50 miles south: high water 15 minutes later, low water 16 minutes later, heights multiplied by 1.07. That gives the oceanfront an average day of 3.8 ft, noticeably more than the 2.6 ft of Hampton Roads inside the bay.
Rudee Inlet and the lakes behind it
At the south end of the boardwalk, Rudee Inlet connects the ocean to Lake Rudee and Lake Wesley. NOAA keeps a reference station in the interior channel and predicts the inlet entrance from Duck with nearly the same times. Inside, the lakes run 16 to 20 minutes behind Duck with similar heights. The inlet is the launch point for many offshore and inshore trips, and the bar at its mouth can break on a big swell at low water.
Cape Henry and the bay side
Six miles north, Cape Henry at the mouth of the Chesapeake is predicted from Duck 31 minutes later. Turn the corner into the bay, and the tide changes character: Lynnhaven and Broad Bay are predicted from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel with high water about two hours later and roughly half to two thirds of the height. The lowest predicted low on the oceanfront this period is -1.0 ft, on January 23, 2027.
Highest and lowest tides at Virginia Beach, 2026 to 2027
The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Virginia Beach between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

A subordinate station
NOAA predicts Virginia Beach from the reference station DUCK PIER (8651370): high water 15 minutes later, low water 16 minutes later, heights multiplied by 1.07 at high water and 1.07 at low water. Between those highs and lows the curve on this page follows the shape of the reference station's hourly curve.
