Station Longport (inside), Great Egg Harbor Inlet (NOAA 8534836). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 4.1 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Ocean City, NJ come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8534836, Longport (inside), Great Egg Harbor Inlet. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 4.1 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 5.0 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 3.2 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 163 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -0.8 ft on January 24, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 5.2 ft on July 4, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

An inlet station for a barrier-island town

Ocean City occupies a barrier island between Great Egg Harbor Inlet to the north and Corson's Inlet to the south. NOAA has no reference gauge on its ocean beach, so this page uses Longport, on the inside of Great Egg Harbor Inlet facing the north end of Ocean City across the water. The average day there runs 4.1 ft from low to high. On the ocean beachfront the tide turns somewhat earlier than inside the inlet; the Atlantic City ocean station, nine miles up the coast, is a good guide to the beach timing.

Great Egg Harbor Bay and the back channels

West of the island, the bay and its creeks fill through the inlet, and the tide lags. NOAA predicts Beesleys Point, at the bridge to the mainland, from Atlantic City with high water 55 minutes later and low water an hour and a half later; Lakes Bay at Pleasantville is predicted with high water an hour later. For crabbing and launching on the bay side, those later times are the ones that matter.

Lows for the flats, highs for the bay streets

The bayside of Ocean City is low ground, and the highest tides of the year can bring water into streets near the bay, more so with an east wind. This period's top prediction at Longport is 5.2 ft, on July 4, 2027. At the other end, the lowest low is -0.8 ft, on January 24, 2027, when the sandbars around the inlet show.

Highest and lowest tides at Ocean City NJ, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for Longport (inside), Great Egg Harbor Inlet between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Ocean City, NJ?

The highest tide predicted at Longport (inside), Great Egg Harbor Inlet between October 2026 and December 2027 is 5.2 ft above MLLW, on July 4, 2027 at 9:03 PM. An ordinary higher high reaches 4.3 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Ocean City, NJ get negative low tides?

Yes. On 163 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -0.8 ft on January 24, 2027 at 3:27 PM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

How long is it between high and low tide at Ocean City, NJ?

About six hours and twelve minutes on average, because the tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows in each lunar day of 24 hours 50 minutes. That is why each tide comes roughly 50 minutes later than the day before. The water moves fastest in the middle two hours of a rise or fall and slows near the turn.

Which tide station is used for Ocean City, NJ?

NOAA has no reference gauge on the Ocean City, NJ, beachfront, so this page uses Longport, inside Great Egg Harbor Inlet at the north end of the island. For the ocean beach, the turn comes a little earlier; for the bay behind the island, NOAA predicts Beesleys Point with high water about 55 minutes after Atlantic City.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
