Plan around the tide at Newport

Height above MLLW

No window of 30 minutes or more below 1.0 ft over the next 7 days in daylight. Try a higher level.

A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station YAQUINA USCG STA, NEWPORT (NOAA 9435385). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 8.4 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Newport, OR come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 9435385, YAQUINA USCG STA, NEWPORT, a subordinate station whose highs and lows NOAA corrects from CRESCENT CITY. The tide here is mixed: two highs and two lows most days, but of unequal size, the two highs of a day differing by 1.7 ft on average, for an average daily range of 8.4 ft between the higher high and the lower low. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 10.9 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 6.0 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 229 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -2.5 ft on June 6, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 10.8 ft on December 24, 2026. Clock times are Pacific Time, daylight saving time included.

Corrected from two hundred miles south

NOAA computes the Yaquina Bay tide from the gauge at Crescent City, with high water 39 minutes later, low water 35 minutes later, highs at 122 percent and lows at 111 percent. Applied to that reference, the corrections give Newport an average day of 8.4 ft, against 6.9 ft at Crescent City, and spring tides of 10.9 ft. Two full NOAA gauges lie close by, at South Beach just across the bay and at Weiser Point a few miles up the Yaquina River, so this is a well-measured estuary despite the derived numbers.

Bay front, jetties and the river above

Yaquina Bay opens to the ocean between two rock jetties, and the US 101 bridge arches over the narrows just inside. The working waterfront on the north shore and the marina and marine science buildings at South Beach face each other across that water, which is why the tide here follows the ocean closely. Upstream, the river winds through mudflats and marsh toward Toledo, where NOAA predicts high water 62 minutes after Crescent City and low water 77 minutes after. The flats exposed at low water are a big part of the bay's surface, and paddlers and clam diggers on them need the upriver timing rather than the dock's. The entrance bar can be rough on an ebb against a westerly swell; the Coast Guard station by the gauge is there for a reason.

Outer beaches and Yaquina Head

North of the bay, Nye Beach and Agate Beach face the open Pacific, and the basalt headland of Yaquina Head, with its lighthouse, has tide pools that open on the lower tides. The deepest low of the period is -2.5 ft, on June 6, 2027.

Highest and lowest tides at Newport OR, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for YAQUINA USCG STA, NEWPORT between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

A subordinate station

NOAA predicts YAQUINA USCG STA, NEWPORT from the reference station CRESCENT CITY (9419750): high water 39 minutes later, low water 35 minutes later, heights multiplied by 1.22 at high water and 1.11 at low water. Between those highs and lows the curve on this page follows the shape of the reference station's hourly curve.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Newport, OR?

The highest tide predicted at YAQUINA USCG STA, NEWPORT between October 2026 and December 2027 is 10.8 ft above MLLW, on December 24, 2026 at 11:24 AM. An ordinary high tide reaches about 7.6 ft. Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Newport, OR get negative low tides?

Yes. On 229 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -2.5 ft on June 6, 2027 at 8:16 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

Why are the two high tides at Newport, OR different heights?

This coast has a mixed tide: the daily and twice-daily constituents are of comparable size, so one high of the day stands taller than the other, by 1.7 ft on average here, and the two lows differ by 3.1 ft. The gap is largest when the moon is far from the equator, and it is why charts list a higher high and a lower low.

How much later is the tide at Toledo than in Newport, Oregon?

About twenty minutes later at high water and about forty minutes later at low water, judging from NOAA's corrections: both places are predicted from Crescent City, California, with Toledo at 62 and 77 minutes and the Yaquina Bay Coast Guard station at 39 and 35 minutes. Toledo's highs also stand a little taller. Anyone working the upper river should read the Toledo times rather than the bay mouth.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
