Plan around the tide at Crescent City

Height above MLLW

No window of 30 minutes or more below 1.0 ft over the next 7 days in daylight. Try a higher level.

A falling tide uncovers sand bars and tide pools first; plan to be back before the water rises past the level you chose. Not for navigation.

Station CRESCENT CITY (NOAA 9419750). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 6.9 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Crescent City come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 9419750, CRESCENT CITY. The tide here is mixed: two highs and two lows most days, but of unequal size, the two highs of a day differing by 1.4 ft on average, for an average daily range of 6.9 ft between the higher high and the lower low. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 9.0 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 4.8 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 229 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -2.2 ft on June 6, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 8.8 ft on December 24, 2026. Clock times are Pacific Time, daylight saving time included.

Where the Pacific tide starts to grow

Coming north from San Francisco, the tide gets taller. The average day at Crescent City spans 6.9 ft, against 5.8 ft at the Golden Gate, and the strongest spring tides open to 9.0 ft. That growth continues up the Oregon coast, which is why NOAA uses this harbor as the reference for several Oregon bays: Yaquina Bay at Newport is predicted from here with high water 39 minutes later and highs at 122 percent. A table for a northern Oregon estuary often has Crescent City behind it.

A harbor that knows tsunamis

The town is known among oceanographers for another kind of wave. The shape of the seafloor offshore focuses tsunami energy toward this stretch of coast, and the harbor was badly damaged in 1964, after the great Alaska earthquake, and again in 2011, after the earthquake off Japan. A tsunami is not a tide, and nothing on this page predicts one. Still, a surge that arrives near high water reaches farther inland, and the evacuation signs posted in town are worth reading before a visit.

Walking out to Battery Point

Battery Point Lighthouse stands on a small islet joined to the mainland only at lower tides. The crossing is short, but the gap fills on the rising water and the rocks are slippery. Go on a falling tide, check the low time and height on this page for your day, and leave the islet well before the turn. Around the new and full moon the lows here drop below the chart zero, the deepest at -2.2 ft on June 6, 2027.

Highest and lowest tides at Crescent City, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for CRESCENT CITY between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Crescent City?

The highest tide predicted at CRESCENT CITY between October 2026 and December 2027 is 8.8 ft above MLLW, on December 24, 2026 at 10:45 AM. An ordinary higher high reaches 6.9 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Crescent City get negative low tides?

Yes. On 229 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -2.2 ft on June 6, 2027 at 7:41 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

Why are the two high tides at Crescent City different heights?

This coast has a mixed tide: the daily and twice-daily constituents are of comparable size, so one high of the day stands taller than the other, by 1.4 ft on average here, and the two lows differ by 2.8 ft. The gap is largest when the moon is far from the equator, and it is why charts list a higher high and a lower low.

Why is Crescent City used to predict tides in Oregon?

Crescent City has a long tide record on the open coast just south of the state line, so NOAA uses it as the reference for many Oregon stations. Each of them gets a time and height correction from it: Yaquina Bay near Newport, for example, comes about 40 minutes later at high water with highs about a fifth taller. The Oregon pages on this site show those corrections station by station.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
