Station NANTUCKET (NOAA 8449130). Predicted astronomical tide: wind, river flow and storms can move the real water by a foot or more. 3.5 ft is the average daily range here.

Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Nantucket come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8449130, NANTUCKET. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 3.5 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 4.3 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 2.7 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 182 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -0.6 ft on December 25, 2026. The highest predicted tide of that period is 4.4 ft on November 26, 2026. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

An island with a modest tide

Nantucket Harbor rises and falls 3.5 ft on an average day and 4.3 ft on spring tides, a gentle tide by New England standards. Around the island, NOAA predicts its secondary stations from the distant Boston gauge with heavy height corrections: Great Point at the northern tip at 32 percent of Boston's range, Eel Point on the west end at 24 percent, Muskeget Island at 21 percent. The water level hardly moves there, but the currents over the shoals are strong.

Jetties, harbor flats and Coatue

Two stone jetties guard the harbor entrance, and inside, the harbor stretches east toward Wauwinet behind the long sand arm of Coatue. At low tide the shallow edges of the harbor and the flats off the beaches near town are exposed, the time for shell hunting and for wading the shallows. The lowest low predicted this period is -0.6 ft, on December 25, 2026.

South shore surf

The beaches of the south shore face the open Atlantic swell, not the sound, and there the waves matter far more than the tide for a swim. The harbor times on this page are the useful ones for boats, ferries landing in town and the north-shore beaches. For the mainland end of the ferry crossing, see Hyannis.

Highest and lowest tides at Nantucket, 2026 to 2027

The six highest highs and six lowest lows predicted for NANTUCKET between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2027, one per day. The high-water dates are the king tides of this station; the low-water dates are the best days to see the flats, bars and tide pools.

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Nantucket?

The highest tide predicted at NANTUCKET between October 2026 and December 2027 is 4.4 ft above MLLW, on November 26, 2026 at 12:56 PM. An ordinary higher high reaches 3.6 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Nantucket get negative low tides?

Yes. On 182 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -0.6 ft on December 25, 2026 at 6:53 PM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

How long is it between high and low tide at Nantucket?

About six hours and twelve minutes on average, because the tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows in each lunar day of 24 hours 50 minutes. That is why each tide comes roughly 50 minutes later than the day before. The water moves fastest in the middle two hours of a rise or fall and slows near the turn.

Is the tide the same all around Nantucket island?

No. NOAA predicts the island’s secondary stations from Boston with different corrections: Great Point at 32 percent of Boston’s range and about 43 minutes later, Eel Point at 24 percent. The harbor, on this page, is the reference for town and the north shore. On the south shore, surf and swell matter more than the small tide.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
