Published by Radif Partners · How the tides are computed · predictions downloaded October 13, 2026

Tide times for Fort Lauderdale come from the National Ocean Service prediction for station 8722956, South Port Everglades, ICWW. The tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows of similar height every day, about six hours and a quarter apart, with an average daily range of 2.7 ft. Around the new and full moon the range grows to about 3.5 ft on one day in ten, and at the quarter moons it shrinks to 2.0 ft. Heights are in feet above Mean Lower Low Water, the zero of nautical charts, so a negative number is water below that zero: 190 of the 457 days from October 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 have one, down to -0.8 ft on January 23, 2027. The highest predicted tide of that period is 3.8 ft on September 30, 2027. Clock times are Eastern Time, daylight saving time included.

A canal city on a small, even tide

Fort Lauderdale averages 2.7 ft between low and high, with two highs and two lows of almost the same height every day. That evenness is typical of the Southeast Florida coast. For the city's hundreds of miles of canals, lined with docks and seawalls, the tide sets the clearance under bridges and the depth at the docks twice a day.

Every canal has its own lag

NOAA predicts dozens of points around Port Everglades from Miami's Government Cut. The turning basin runs 29 minutes ahead of Government Cut, Whiskey Creek's north end 23 minutes ahead. Bahia Mar Yacht Club, on the Intracoastal near Las Olas, is close in high-water time but has low water 33 minutes later. Mayan Lake, a mile and a half north, turns 20 minutes after Government Cut at high water and an hour after at low water, and Hollywood's West Lake more than an hour after. The deeper into the canals, the later and more lopsided the tide.

King tides on Las Olas

Fort Lauderdale's low streets, especially near the Las Olas Isles, flood during the autumn king tides, when the highest predicted tides of the year meet a seasonally high sea level. The highest prediction this period is 3.8 ft, on September 30, 2027. The king tides guide explains the season; the Miami page gives the Government Cut reference.

Highest and lowest tides at Fort Lauderdale, 2026 to 2027

Questions about these tides

How high does the tide get at Fort Lauderdale?

The highest tide predicted at South Port Everglades, ICWW between October 2026 and December 2027 is 3.8 ft above MLLW, on September 30, 2027 at 9:01 AM. An ordinary higher high reaches 2.8 ft (the station's MHHW datum). Onshore wind or a storm surge adds water on top of the prediction, so flooding can start lower than the table suggests.

Does Fort Lauderdale get negative low tides?

Yes. On 190 of the 457 days of the prediction period at least one low falls below 0 ft, the Mean Lower Low Water datum. The lowest is -0.8 ft on January 23, 2027 at 2:14 AM. Negative lows bunch around the new and full moon and uncover the most beach, flats and tide pools.

How long is it between high and low tide at Fort Lauderdale?

About six hours and twelve minutes on average, because the tide here is semidiurnal: two highs and two lows in each lunar day of 24 hours 50 minutes. That is why each tide comes roughly 50 minutes later than the day before. The water moves fastest in the middle two hours of a rise or fall and slows near the turn.

Why do Fort Lauderdale streets flood in October?

Because the year’s highest astronomical tides in South Florida often fall in early autumn, when sea level along the coast is also seasonally high. Low streets near canals and the Intracoastal, like parts of the Las Olas Isles, take water from storm drains and over seawalls. Wind and rain make it worse.

Predictions, not measurements: the times and heights are NOAA’s astronomical tide for the station named on the page. An onshore wind, a storm surge or a river in flood can raise the water well above them, and an offshore wind can hold it down. Never use this page to navigate.
